I saw a very good post today on Illinois Educator, Steve Dembo's blog, teach42.com titled "Why don't we Wiki well?"

I found that I was guilty of everything he said in the article!
Please read the article here, and comment to this post, on:
A) Are you also guilty?
B) What can/should we do to facilitate change?

Ownership is one of the issues, and then editing content to ensure some sense of security is another reason we may not wiki well. Another reason I agree that with from the author is that we really don't always have relevance for a wiki in our courses and just make one for the sake of having one.

As a pioneer wikiier, I am hoping to develop a way to entice students into using this new media as a learning tool. I continue to look for ways to incorporate this technology into regular classes and use it as a way for students to work collaboratively on projects. The issue of security is real for me and how people feel the need to express themselves to others via print is an issue that seems not to be addressed. As a school, we need to figure out ways to use wikis and break down the walls of insecurity that many like myself still have about this emerging area of learning.
