Google Earth 4.3: Way Cool!

After spending time last night in Second Life at an ISTE social with 50 other people (avatars), it was nice to get back to the real world this morning to see that Google has made some great updates to Google Earth!
Version 4.3 includes clouds and lighting, so you can actually view the sunrise and it's affect on an area within Google Earth. They have also improved the 3-D building rendering and have now imbeded the Street View images from Google Maps inside GE.

Awesome - my students are researching Hadrian's Wall and comparing it to a structure of their choice anywhere in the ancient or modern world and this grabbed their attention faster than anything I've seen. They are so excited to get researching and see their structures from all the new view points being offered. Thanks for sharing Michael.

Redefining Awesome...Connected Learning

Last September, Will Richardson challenged our faculty to " Redefine Awesome " in what learning looked like in our district. The last few weeks, have seen some great connected learning opportunities happening at Valley View Middle School that get at what Will was talking about.  Project Lead the Way Tim Berendt, a teacher in our Project Lead the Way program, began using Twitter this year as a way for his students to share the work they are doing with the outside world, and also as a tool for formative assessment.  Students tweet out what they hope to accomplish at the beginning of the class period, and then tweet what they completed at the end.
