Last spring, our district developed our 2015 Technology Plan. Using our district mission statement as a foundation, we identified 4 goals in the plan:
- Unleash student's passion to be lifelong learners
- Empower and enhance excellent teaching
- Engage families in a partnership for education
- Demonstrate excellence in service, operation, and productivity
We will also showcase members of our Edina Teaching and Technology Cohort, a group of 25 educators who spent the last year in a job embedded, professional development experience where they earned a Teaching and Technology Certificate from Hamline University. Cohort members will conduct poster sessions, showcasing how they transformed their instruction this past year. I'm proud to have had the opportunity to work with this amazing group of educators, who did some amazing things, AND are willing to share!
The day will culminate with two talks by Will Richardson, who describes himself as:
He'll speak to staff in the afternoon, and then will conduct a free talk for parents and community members in the evening. I've had the pleasure of hearing Will speak at conferences many times, and 2 years ago, I had the opportunity to work with Will and his partner, Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach in a Powerful Learning Practice Cohort. His passion for student learning will be evident, and he will challenge us as educators to harness the power of technology to enhance our classroom practices to unleash that passion in students.
I'm excited to work in a district that understands that:
a) It's about the learning and
b) The role technology can play in making that happen!
Here's to a great school year!!
